How To Clean and Reassemble My PetSafe® ScoopFree® Crystal Plus Self-Cleaning Litter Box

Important Information

Regular monthly cleaning can reduce odor and extend the life of your litter box and litter trays.

Avoid using soaps, cleaners, or chemicals that have a strong odor or contain scents that are cat-repellant, like citrus, peppermint, etc.


Lift Box To Remove TrayLift Box To Remove Tray

Remove the old tray by lifting your ScoopFree® litter box from the front using the handle to an upright position and pull out the old tray. Remove the lid from under the tray and close it over the tray. Dispose of the old tray in your trash bin.

Remove Power AdaptorRemove Power Adaptor

Remove the power adaptor.

Remove Waste TrapRemove Waste Trap

Remove the waste trap cover by rotating it forward, then lift it straight up until it pops out of the notches on the litter box base.

Do not pull up one side at a time. Pulling one side up first can result in damage.

Clean Both SensorsClean Both Sensors

Clean the sensors. Even if the sensors look clean, wipe them with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol to remove any film that may prevent the rake from working.

Remove RakeRemove Rake

Open the rake covers and release the rake by rotating the rake clips toward the back of the litter box. Lift the rake straight up and out of the litter box. Then clean the rake with a sponge or a soft brush.

Clean Box With Mild SoapClean Box With Mild Soap

Wipe all surfaces on the litter box frame with a cloth or sponge using mild soap and water.

DO NOT use any soaps or cleaners that would leave residue on the sensors. DO NOT use bleach or chemicals to clean as they can act as a repellent to your cat.

Air Dry PartsAir Dry Parts

Let all parts thoroughly dry.

Replace Waste TrapReplace Waste Trap

Replace the waste trap cover by inserting the posts on the underside of the waste trap cover into the notches inside the front of the litter box frame.

Replace RakeReplace Rake

Open the rake covers and install the rake with the horizontal bar facing the back. Ensure the rake is locked into place by rotating the clips toward the front and closing the rake covers.
