How To Disassemble & Clean My PetSafe® Outdoor Dog Fountain
Important Information
Clean the fountain and pump every 1-2 weeks. Cleaning the pump is essential to the longevity of the fountain, as well as the cleanliness of the water.
Disassemble the Fountain
Unplug the fountain and remove the two water reservoirs.
Unscrew the caps of the water reservoirs and empty them. Grasp both cutouts on the side of the fountain bowl and pour out the remaining water.
If the fountain is mostly full, it can be very heavy to lift. You may need to remove some water with a cup prior to moving it to a sink or tub.
Open the housing lid and remove the carbon filter. Then remove the filter housing by gently pressing on each side of the housing where it locks into the bowl and lifting it off.
Remove the two pre-filters in the bowl by lifting on the top of each.
Remove the T-Tube and Outflow Tube from the bottom of the housing and separate into two pieces. Then remove the foam filter.
To remove the pump, unscrew the locking collar on the power adaptor. Then pull the cord to separate it from the plug. With the adaptor detached from the electrical cord, pull the cord through the opening on the inside of the bowl. Lift the pump and cord up from the bowl.
Clean the Fountain
Wash the fountain parts with soap and warm water and rinse thoroughly. If placing the fountain parts inside the dishwasher, we recommend the top rack and/or silverware holder. If possible, turn down the temperature of the water inside the dishwasher.
Do not put the reservoirs, pump, power adaptor, or filters in the dishwasher. Hand wash only.
Clean the Pump

Carbon and Foam Filters
Carbon Filter: Change the carbon filter every 2 to 4 weeks when used indoors and every 1 to 2 weeks when used outdoors. Be sure to rinse the new carbon filter before inserting it.
- Carbon filter may be rinsed out with water when the fountain is cleaned and in between cleanings. Never wash the filter with soapy water, this will leave soap residue inside the filter, and it will need to be discarded.
Foam Filter: Replace the foam filter every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the location of the fountain and the number of pets using it.
- If you do not intend to replace the filter at the time of cleaning, rinse the foam filter thoroughly with fresh water.
