How To Fit My PetSafe® NanoBark™ 2.0 Collar

Fitting a bark collar properly is necessary for the collar to be effective. Without a proper fit, the collar will not work. Most pet owners are surprised to find that fitting a bark collar is unlike fitting most other collars. Follow the steps below to ensure your dog’s collar is fitted properly.

Avoid leaving the collar on the pet for more than 12 hours per day to prevent skin irritation. If you notice redness or irritation, discontinue use of the product until the skin no longer appears to be irritated.

Fitting the Collar

Start with the collar powered off. For more information, How To Power My PetSafe® NanoBark™ 2.0 Collar On and Off.

Important: Never fit the collar on your dog while it is powered on.

Place the desired Contact Points on the collar and hand-tighten. The short Contact Points come preinstalled and work for most dogs. However, if your dog has long or thick hair, the long Contact Points may be more appropriate. You can use the opening on the Test Light Tool to remove the Contact Points from the collar.

Important: Always tighten the Contact Points by hand. Using the Test Light Tool to install the Contact Points can lead to over-tightening and may damage the collar.

Dog On All Four

Make sure your dog is in a standing position with no additional collars on.

Center Collar

Place the collar on your dog’s neck, keeping in mind the following:

  • Place the Contact Points on the collar underneath the dog’s chin, directly on the vocal cords.
  • The collar strap should be behind the dog’s ears and not the base of the neck.
  • The Contact Points should be making contact with the skin. If the dog’s fur is in the way even after trying the long Contact Points, you can try trimming (NOT SHAVING) the fur to allow for better connection with the skin.

Place one finger between a Contact Point and your dog’s neck. You should be able to fit only one finger.

Adjust The Strap

If the collar needs to be tightened, use the slide buckle to adjust the length.

Recheck the fit after 10 minutes. Dogs can become tense when they are nervous or unsure of what is happening. As the dog relaxes, you may need to tighten the collar a bit more.

Additional Advice

  • Your dog shouldn’t wear any other collars while wearing the NanoBark™ collar to avoid false activations.
  • Never put tags on the collar. We recommend a harness if tags are needed.
  • Bandanas, clothing, or anything else around your dog’s neck should not be worn while wearing the bark collar.
  • Never attach a leash to the NanoBark™ collar.
