How to Fit My PetSafe® YardMax® Collar on My Pet

Avoid leaving the collar on your pet for more than 12 hours per day to prevent skin irritation. If skin irritation does occur, stop using the collar and call your vet.

The YardMax® collar has a built-in Perfect Fit check. This check ensures the collar is tight enough but cannot determine proper placement of the collar. The steps below should also be followed to ensure the best results. Different Contact PointsDifferent Contact Points

Choose the appropriate contact points.

  • The collar will come with short contact points installed, which will work for most dogs. If your dog has long or thick fur, or as the thicker winter coats come in, it may be necessary to use the longer contact points that were included or to trim, not shave, the fur to make better contact.

Ensure your pet is standing for the fitting of the collar.

Position the electronic portion of the collar under the pet’s chin.

Tighten the collar strap so that the collar remains in this position. For assistance adjusting the strap, visit How To Adjust the Size of the Petsafe® Yardmax® Collar Strap

  • If the pet shakes or scratches at the collar it should not move. If it does, it is not tight enough.
  • Check the tightness of the collar by gently attempting to shift the collar on the pet’s neck. The skin should move with the collar. Additionally, you should be able to fit one finger behind the contact point while your pet is wearing the collar.
Trim Extra StrapTrim Extra Strap

You may measure and trim the excess strap. Consider leaving some excess if your pet is not fully grown. Once you have cut the strap, finish the end by melting it lightly with a lighter or adding a clear glue to prevent fraying.
