How To Train My Pet To Use the PetSafe® Pet Loo™ Pet Toilet
Important Information
The Pet Loo™ Pet Toilet should only be a place for your pet to relieve itself. To avoid confusion,
- Do not feed your pet near or on the Pet Loo™.
- Do not allow your pet to lay or sleep on the Pet Loo™.
- Do not play with your pet on the Pet Loo™.
Place your pet on the Pet Loo™ when your pet would typically use the bathroom.
Puppies usually relieve themselves around 15- 20 minutes after sleep, after they eat, and after playing. Younger puppies may need to urinate as frequently as every 30 minutes.
Keep your pet on the Pet Loo™ until it relives itself.
A command can be used when your pet goes to the bathroom on the Pet Loo™ so that over time, they will associate that command with going to the bathroom. A suggestion is “potty,” but any command that is easy to remember and relevant is okay.
When your pet relieves itself and the command is said, praise or give a treat to your pet to help the training stick.
Repeat this process until your pet is consistently using the Pet Loo™ independently.
Helpful Tips
- Keep training sessions short, about 5-10 minutes is ideal. Your pet will pick up training far more effectively in shorter bursts than in long sessions.
- Don't repeat commands unnecessarily. Saying 'potty' over and over only teaches your pet to ignore the first time something is said. Once your pet knows the command, give it once and then reward obedience.
- Be consistent with training. Your pet might be confused and won't comply with a command if training is not consistent. Also, be consistent with commands and treats. Always end a training session on a positive note.
- Be patient and allow your pet time to acclimate. Some dogs may instantly take to the Pet Loo™ and use it from the beginning, while others may need a little extra help. Training an older dog to use the Pet Loo™ may take a little more time.
