How to Train Your Pet to the PetSafe® Rechargeable In-Ground Fence™ Phase 2: Introduction to Static Correction

Avoid leaving the collar on your pet for more than 12 hours per day to prevent skin irritation. If skin irritation does occur, stop using the collar and call your vet.

Training your pet to a PetSafe® Rechargeable In-GroundFence™ is essential for successful integration into your and your pet’s lives.

At a minimum, you will need to commit to three sessions, on three different days of training for 10-15 minutes each session for each phase. You will also need to have toys and treats available for praise at each session.

If your pet shows signs of stress, increase the amount of playtime in the pet area. Signs of stress can include ears tucked, tail down, cowering, pulling on the leash, or stiffening.

Set the collar to level 2. Level 2 is the lowest level of static correction. For assistance with changing the correction level, visit How to Change the Correction Level on the PetSafe® Rechargeable In-Ground Fence™Collar.

Attach to second collarAttach to second collar

Attach a leash to a second, non-metallic collar placed above the training collar on your pet.

Walk to the boundary and watch for slight reactions to the correction. A slight reaction could be the ears perking up, a twitch of the skin, or a turn of the head.

If there is no reaction to the correction, visit How to Fit a PetSafe® Containment Collar to ensure proper collar fit.

If the collar is properly fit and there is still no reaction, raise the correction level by one. Visit How to Change the Correction Level on the PetSafe® Rechargeable In-Ground Fence™Collar. for assistance with changing the levels.

Walk your pet to the same flag and back into the middle of the yard until the end of the session or your pet resists going into the boundary zone.

Remove the collar from the pet after each training session.
