My PetSafe® 4-Way Locking Big Cat Door Flap is Getting Stuck or Not Staying Closed

Inspect the pet door for damage. Examine the interior and exterior frame, plastic core covers, and flap of the pet door. If damage is found, replace the pet door. Replacement cat doors can be purchased here.

Loosen the mounting screws by a half-turn each. The plastic can expand or contract as the seasons and temperatures change, causing tension on the frame.

If the above does not resolve the issue, remove the pet door, and inspect cut out. The original cut-out made during installation may be too small. This can place stress on the pet door frame causing it to bow inward and not allow the flap the space needed to swing freely. Depending on the material of the door, you may be able to use a file to widen the cut-out. The pet door should fit into the cutout without a lot of pressure or being forcibly inserted.
